Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Advanced Mother and Child Centre (AMCC) and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre (ANC) at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. The Advanced Mother and Child Centre is a 300-bed super-specialty facility designed to provide comprehensive care for high-risk pregnancies, critically ill newborns, and children requiring specialized treatment. The centre houses advanced neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), modular operation theatres, and specialized maternal healthcare services under one roof.
The facility is expected to improve healthcare access for thousands of families across Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and neighbouring states. It will also enhance PGIMER’s ability to manage thousands of complicated deliveries and pediatric cases annually.
The newly inaugurated Advanced Neurosciences Centre integrates neurology, neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neuroradiology, rehabilitation, and advanced diagnostics within a single facility. Built with approximately 300 beds, intensive care units, and modern operation theatres, the centre will provide world-class treatment for patients suffering from complex neurological disorders such as stroke, brain tumors, epilepsy, spinal disorders, and traumatic brain injuries.
Besides patient care, the centre will strengthen research, postgraduate medical education, and specialized training in neurosciences.
Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for a 150-bed Critical Care Block under PM-ABHIM. Developed after the COVID-19 pandemic, the facility will improve India’s emergency preparedness by providing multidisciplinary critical care services equipped with modern medical technology.
